Prisma ORM 8 shipped ten release candidates in six weeks -- rc.8 on August 26, 2026 through rc.17 on October 8, 2026 -- and 8 of those 10 releases included at least one breaking change.
prisma.config.ts changed its required shape twice in that window, and every PSL schema file must now start with the literal line // use prisma-8 or it fails to parse, as of rc.12.
Prisma 8 requires Node.js 22.18+ (or 24.11+, or 26+) and TypeScript 5.9+ -- both newer floors than Prisma 7 needs, so the upgrade can force a runtime upgrade too.
