Claude Opus 5.5 returns a 400 error when a request sets thinking to disabled or sets tool_choice to any or tool.
The fix is to omit the thinking field, choose an effort level, and use tool_choice auto with strict tool use.
Opus 5.5 costs $4 per million input tokens and $20 per million output tokens, down from $5 and $25 on Opus 5.
